England - North York Moors to Scarborough

Pickering Castle was in a strategic location between Whitby and Malton in the north/south direction and between Scarborough and Northallerton in the east/west direction. Despite this it saw little military action but was a popular location for English Kings due to the proximity of the adjacent Royal forest. Use of the castle had declined greatly by the end of the 1400s.
